Like with many Institutional Investors, over the past two decades, U.S. Investment Bankers (USIB) have played a very minor role in the financing of precious metal companies, via IPO’s, secondaries or covertible debt.
However with names like David Einhorn, Stan Drukenmiller, Paul Singer and George Soros pledging their new found interest in both precious and industrial metals in major media, interest is heating up. Investment Bankers we are familiar with, have told us they are either hiring experienced analysts and bankers, or training current staff to become more familiar with the sector.
While there have been very few deals where U.S. bankers led an offering, many have participated in offering syndicates led by others.
In our opinion, we beleive U.S. based Investment Bankers are in the early stages of becoming a major source of directing U.S. investors toward opportunities in the metals sector. Both into explorers and producers, and into both the Junior’s and Senior’s. There are many similarities between Wall Street funding billions into biotech start-ups with no revenues who are exploring for a new drug, and funding a precious metal start-ups with no revenues who are exploring for gold, silver, cooper or antimony.
Wall Street is never far behind trends, where investors and the investment community are showing increased interset – which is exactly what started in the sector two years ago. They bankers are currently experiencing FOMO. Or fear of missing out.
